Short presentation:

This small swicher is called "Tm 2/2" in Switzerland. This means "locomotive with thermal engine with 2 axles from which 2 are driven". The engine is a V12 from the german company Deutz and is able to developp 170HP at 1500rpm. The transmission consists of a hydraulic box from the well-known german manufacturer Voith and it is from  type L 33yU.

The swither as been used since 1986 to move isolated wagons at Contargo AG, which operated at the south terminal of the basin No 2 at the harbour of Basel Kleinhüningen. This was a quite easy task and the switcher suited quite well to this use. But from 2012 on, the traffic has been concentrated and single wagon loads were not up-to-date anymore. Now full trains with containers came as a permanent consist came to the harbour and this topped the traction ability of it. It was then use by the parent company Rhénus (which is also the principal shareholder of the so-called "SEMOP" which operates the "Port Rhénan", our partner) to load grain cars under silos.

In 2016 decision was made at Contargo to sell the switcher and to replace it with a remote electric traction ressource. (which has nothing anymore to do with railroading to be honest). A swiss member of our association who worked for Contargo, could preserve it and the switcher which now was bought by the CFTR was delivered by the company "Hapag-Loyd" and came to the Port Rhénan, our neighbour and was then unload there in october 2016.
